Achilles Come Down

The smell of whisky and candles filled the loft. A telltale of Achilles Spiraling. I look around expecting to find him passed out on the floor using one of the piles of laundry everywhere as a sad pillow. What I find instead is a letter addressed to me.

                                    Alexander

I'm sorry to leave you like this. By the time you find this letter, I should be gone. I just want to be free. She hurt me too badly, she slept with my brother. I'm done, I'm sorry.

                                                   I'm Finally Flying,

                                                        Achilles

Finally flying... When I met Achilles we had been hiking and found a cliff edge with the most beautiful view. Achilles was out hiking alone and my friends had gone ahead of me, planning some kind of lunch. I had noticed him hiking ahead of us, His hair the color of walnuts with soft curls dancing as he hiked.

"Some day, I'm going to fly," he mumbled as I walked by.

I stopped and thought for a moment, before finally saying, "If I could fly I wouldn't be hiking this early in the morning". He let out a chuckle and turned. His eyes made me stop in my tracks, they were a deep caramel color, nearly gold.

"I'm Achilles, are you against morning or hiking?" his teeth were nearly perfect as he spoke, his breath visible.

"I'm Alexander, and neither unless they're together" I said carefully, now very self conscious.

I have to stop him. I can't let him do this. I run to the stairwell and run as fast as I can to the roof. I bust through the Roof Access door and scan the roof, looking for him.

"Achilles! Be done with this now and get off the roof! Can you hear me, Achilles? I'm talking to you!" My eyes finally landed on him. He's not on the edge yet, but the bottle in his hand isn't gone yet.

"Don't be real and just jump, you dense motherfucker" is what she said to me as she left me. So I started drinking until I thought I wouldn't feel anymore. The feelings aren't going away though. She wants me to jump. His voice breaks as he says jump and I can't tell if it's from the crying or the alcohol.

"Remember the pact of our youth? Where you go, I'm going" I stand next to him and grab his hand. Our fingers intertwined effortlessly. "So jump and I'm jumping, since there's no me without you". His eyes meet mine and my heart breaks. His eyes are swollen and puffy, tears streaking his beautiful pale face.
